Portsmouth Scaffolding was appointed to provide a safe, practical scaffold access solution for a modular building at the Sudlows Construction Site on St. Michael’s Road, Portsmouth, PO1 2EE.
The project required installing a scaffold ramp and landing platform to provide secure pedestrian access to the modular building. Access structures of this type are commonly used on active construction sites where safe entry and exit routes are essential for site personnel and visitors.
Our team designed and erected a straightforward yet robust scaffold access system that met site requirements while providing a safe, stable route into the building.
The scaffold ramp measured around 4 metres in length and was built to a height of 900mm, forming a single-lift scaffold structure. The ramp was built 9 boards deep, creating a generous walking surface that allowed users to access the modular building comfortably and safely.
To enhance user safety, we incorporated double handrails along the ramp. These handrails provided additional protection and support for anyone using the access route, helping maintain a secure working environment throughout the project.
The ramp was designed to create a smooth transition from ground level to the building entrance while maintaining stability and ease of use.
At the top of the ramp, our scaffolders installed a dedicated landing platform approximately 3 metres long. Like the ramp, the platform was constructed 9 boards deep and positioned at a height of 900mm.
The landing platform created a safe area for users to step onto before entering or exiting the modular building. Adequate space at the entrance improves accessibility and allows people to move safely between the scaffold structure and the building.
Double handrails were also included around the platform to maintain consistent edge protection throughout the access system.
Construction sites often require temporary access solutions that can be installed quickly while maintaining high safety standards. For this project, the scaffold ramp and landing platform provided a practical solution that enabled reliable access to the modular building for the duration of the works.
The overall structure was designed with stability, accessibility and user safety in mind. By creating a clearly defined access route, the scaffold helped support day-to-day site operations while ensuring users could enter and leave the building safely.
The 9-board-wide configuration provided ample walking space, while the double handrails added extra protection and confidence for users.
This scaffold access ramp and landing platform were supplied on a 16-week hire period to support the project’s ongoing requirements.
The total cost for the scaffold installation and hire was £2,100.
