Scaffolding to access signage at the Highbury Northarbour Centre, Portsmouth

Tower for signage access, Highbury Northarbour centre, PO6

Service type: Tower access to a commercial building.

Address: Highbury Northarbour Centre, Unit 1 Harbour Gate Business Park, Southampton Rd, Portsmouth, Hampshire, PO6 4BQ.

Client needs: This customer asked us to provide a quotation for supplying, erecting and removing a scaffolding tower to one side of an industrial unit that belongs to Highbury College, and this was to provide access to some signage. We quoted £600, including a 4-week rental period.

Problems we faced: We did not encounter any issues when we put this structure up, but we had to carefully place our materials around two air conditioner units at ground level. This side of the warehouse unit was quiet and was not used by the public or students.

What we did:

  • This tower was built approximately 4.5 metres wide and 5 metres high.
  • The structure included two scaffolding lifts, with the top one being a fully boarded working platform.
  • We placed the top access platform just below the base of the sign so that our customer could reach all parts of it.
  • This working area was 6 scaffold boards wide and was made up of 13ft lengths that were placed horizontally across five transoms that were connected to 2 ledger scaffolding tubes.
  • Our scaffolders installed double handrails and toe boards around the perimeter of the top platform as fall protection.
  • A safety ladder gate was added to the left side of the structure.
  • We used one steel ladder to supply fixed access from ground level to the top lift.
  • We used a total of six 21ft length tubes as the inside and outside vertical uprights on this framework.
  • Sway bracing was fitted on the face of the structure on the first (left-hand) bay on both lifts.

Hire period: We gave our client a hire period of 4 weeks within our price. This gave them ample time to complete the work on the Highbury Northarbour sign.

If you would like to get a quotation from us, it’s very simple:

All you need to do is get in touch via our website, email address or telephone. We will require some details from you to provide you with a price. The details we take are very straightforward and will help us understand what type of scaffold is required. We may also ask if you can send images of the area needing scaffolding to help speed up the process.

Here is what our team may ask so that you are prepared when you speak to them:

  • Name and best contact number?
  • Address of where the scaffold needs to go up?
  • How many storeys is the building?
  • How many sides need scaffolding erecting?
  • What are you using the scaffold for?
  • When do you need the structure put up?
  • How long will you require the platforms for?

We will then pass this information to one of our experienced estimators who will be in contact with you to either request a few more details, give you a price over the telephone or arrange a site visit. Please note that none of our estimators will arrive at your property; they will arrange a convenient time for us to come and inspect the area further. Once you have our quotation and are happy with the price, please get back in touch, and we will then book you in to come and put the structure up. When you have completed your work and no longer need the scaffold, please let us know, and we will be round to dismantle our equipment as quickly as we can.
